Artist Talk:
Marek Walczak
Wednesday, October 19, 5:30pm, Ayres 106
Artist Marek Walczak of Walczak & Heiss will discuss their project SHAKER, currently on view at the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery. The artist team is also behind the public art project FACEWALL, which was installed on the new Arts and Humanities building earlier this year.
Artist team Walczak & Heiss make work that responds to the unique characteristics of a particular place. In SHAKER, a magical yet seldom seen nut-harvesting machine becomes a sculptural form in the gallery. As visitors walk through the space, the machine is at first unrecognizable, perversely distorted through digital manipulation. Yet, from one singular vantage point the piece pulls into focus. In this spot, perception and function collapse as the shaker defies its grand scale to crack a single nut.
